The title of this image is shot blue Marilyn. He uses a triadic color scheme in this picture by using red, yellow, and blue. He artwork seems like a triadic color scheme was intended to be used and it works well in this piece.

The title of this image is Mr. America. Warhol uses pink and black in the picture which doesn't represent a color scheme. The artwork is very interesting because of its use of color and placing.

Color Schemes

01.jpg
Triadic color scheme: This picture uses orange, green, and purple. These three color are equally spaced from each other on the color wheel so it is a triadic color scheme.
02.jpg
Analogous color scheme: This picture uses red, red-orange, and orange; these colors are adjacent to each other on the color wheel which is why this is a analogous color scheme.
03.jpg
Monochromatic color scheme: This picture represents a monochromatic color scheme because it uses tints and shades of blue.

04.jpg
Complementary color scheme: This picture uses orange and blue which are opposite each other on the color wheel and that is why this is a complementary color scheme.

05.gif
Split-complementary color scheme: This picture represents a split-complementary color scheme because it uses blue-green, and the colors adjacent to its complementary color which are red and orange.

review week 8

Why must designers pay close attention to how color is utilized within a composition?
Designers need to utilize the color within a composition based on the feeling of the composition and what the message is supposed to be.

Why is the color wheel an important tool for graphic designers?
The color wheel is an important tool for graphic designers because they need to see which colors go together and for how the colors should be used

Find an example of neutral colors utilized within a design (hint: google poster design). Near the sample, discuss why you feel the designer included neutral colors within the composition.

In this design neutral colors are used by the designer. I think the designer used neutral colors because the colors are subtle but they also stand out well. The neutral colors in the composition are all browns but the different shades of browns makes each one noticed next to the other.

Briefly describe how we "see" the color of an object?

We see the color of an object because objects appear to be in color when they absorb or reflect colors into the visible spectrum.

podcast #2 color theory

The right use of color can do what?
maximize productivity, minimize visual fatigue, and relax the body

Within the electromagnetic spectrum, which waves allow us to see color?
visible light

Describe white light?
equal parts of all colors in visible spectrum

How do we see color if objects "have no color of their own"?
objects appear to be in color when they absorb or reflect colors in the visible spectrum

What is a glass prism?
a transparent triangular objects that breaks white light into all the colors of the visible light spectrum

What seven colors result when white light is refracted through a prism?
red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet

Describe hue?
a hue is the color itself, and each different hue is a different reflected wavelength

When does white light occur?
when all wavelengths are reflected back to your eye

When does black light occur?
when no light is reflected to your eye

How color is perceived depends on what?
the type of light it is seen with

What is a color wheel?
a visual tool that shows the relationships between primary, secondary, and tertiary colors

What are primary colors? Name them?
red, blue, and yellow

What are secondary colors? Name them?
two primary colors mixed together; orange, green, and violet

What are tertiary colors? Name them?
primary and secondary colors mixed together; red-orange, yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, and red-violet

What are neutral colors? How can they be created?
blacks, grays, whites, and browns; they can be created by mixing complementary colors

How can a neutral color help a design?
put focus on other colors or serve to tone down overpowering colors

What are complementary colors? Name them?
colors positioned opposite of each other on the color wheel; red and green, orange and blue, yellow and violet

What is color value?
lightness or darkness of a hue or color

What is a shade?
adding black to a hue which produces low-value color

What is a tint?
adding white to a hue which produces a high-value color

What is saturation/intensity?
brightness of a color

What happens when you mix complementary colors together?
produce a dull tone

Describe color harmony?
a pleasing arrangement of parts which pleases the eye

What is a color scheme?
harmonious color combinations used to create style and appeal

Describe a monochromatic color scheme?
uses tints and shades, values of one color

Describe an analogous color scheme?
uses three colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel

Describe a complementary color scheme?
made of two colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel

Describe a split-complementary color scheme?
uses three colors, one color and two adjacent to its compliment

Describe a triadic color scheme?
uses three colors equally spaced around the color wheel

What colors are considered to be warm colors?
yellows, oranges, and reds

Describe a warm color scheme?
bold and energetic

What colors are considered to be cool colors?
greens, blues, and violets

Describe a cool color scheme?
 gives an impression of calm

Why is important to consider which colors are being used within a design?
the meaning of color impacts all visual communications, the right color choice can convey the right message and evoke the desired response to any form of visual communications
